Union County Schools

Creative teacher recruitment strategies during a global pandemic.

Union County is a seven-school county that resides in rural South Carolina. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the county has been battling the nationwide teacher shortage. They called on Rhodes to help them with teacher recruitment initiatives.

Storyline

Our first step was to develop a microsite for the virtual career fair. The one-page site, included registration directions, digital advertising campaigns, and signing bonus information. The career fair was set for April of 2022 and would host interviews for elementary, middle, secondary, and special education positions.

The next step was to develop a pair of month-long digital advertising campaigns. The Rhodes team targeted colleges and universities that aligned with their teacher persona. The ads also had a call to action to encourage them to register.

The career fair saw a 20 percent increase compared to past fairs, several job offers were extended, and the digital ads generated over 165,000 impressions and 3,000 clicks.

Another part of our teacher recruitment efforts was videography. Our team’s videographer produced videos that shed light on what the area had to offer and the positive teacher experiences.

Bottomline

In one month, we helped Union County increase career fair attendance by 20 percent, driving more than 3,000 prospective teachers to its microsite. Since the career fair, our recruitment and retention efforts with the district have been ongoing.
